What does Exposure 1 on the grade stamp mean?

Exposure 1 rating means that the panel uses a waterproof resin. It does not mean the panel is waterproof but rather that the panel can withstand normal delays in construction without affecting the structural properties (strength) of the panel. All our SIP panel facers carry the APA (The Engineered Wood Association) grade stamp.

Are your SIP facers CARB exempt?

Yes, our SIP facers are CARB (California Air Resource Board) exempt and do not contain any urea-formaldehyde resins. They are exempt from the scope of the EPA Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) Title VI Formaldehyde Standards from Composite Wood Products Act.

What does a Zinc Borate treated SIP panel protect against?

Zinc Borate is an integral treatment that protects against termites and fungal decay (dry rot). Unlike other treatment methods that are applied topically and can wear off due to weather exposure, Zinc Borate is applied during the manufacturing process and is permeated throughout the panel.

Do Zinc Borate treated SIP panel facers provide protection against mold?

While there is substantial evidence that Zinc Borate does inhibit mold growth compared to untreated panels, there are no provisions in the warranty to guarantee against mold in West Fraser’s panels.

Are there any special handling requirements when working with Zinc Borate treated panel?

Zinc Borate treated panels have no special handling requirements when compared to untreated panels. They can be stored, sawn and nailed the same, and there are no additional requirements when disposing of waste.
