OSB Subfloor Now Allowed in Florida’s HVHZ

8th Edition of The Florida Building Code

Builders now have more choices of subflooring with enhanced performance. The 8th Edition Florida Building Code now allows OSB subfloor in the high velocity hurricane zones (HVZV) of Florida. Code section 2314.4.6 permits the installation of Wood Structural Panels produced to Performance Standard PS-2. This change permits the use of OSB subfloor sheathing in Dade and Broward Counties. Previously, only plywood subflooring was permitted.

Durastrand pointSIX subflooring from West Fraser is engineered for strength and durability. Durastrand pointSIX panels feature a patented taper along all four edges to prevent edge swell. When Durastrand is exposed to rain, moisture or humidity, the tapered edge has room to expand, becoming flush with the surface without resulting in ridging. That means floors go down flat and stay that way.

Durastrand pointSIX benefits:

  • Patented pointSIX taper on 4-foot and 8-foot edges
  • One-year no sand guarantee
  • Backed by a 50-year limited warranty
  • Proprietary blend of resins and waxes block moisture
  • Meets or exceeds PS2 standards
  • Distinctive Purple edge seal for easy identification
  • Available thicknesses categories – 23/32, 7/8, and 1-1/8
